Our fast-growing podcast, hosted by Wonk-in-chief Edward Greenspon, is a nominee at the Canadian Podcast Awards for best news and current affairs show

The Public Policy Forum’s podcast WONK has been nominated for Outstanding News & Current Affairs Series at the 7th Annual Canadian Podcast Awards.

WONK, which is hosted by PPF President and CEO Edward Greenspon (our Wonk-in-Chief), was launched last year with a mission to make policy discussion, the lifeblood of democracy, accessible without dumbing it down. Our tag line: A podcast sounding out smart policy and the people behind it.

That mission has resonated with a large and growing audience who have tuned in to WONK to better understand some of the big policy issues of the day, from the potential impact of U.S tariffs (see our episode with former chief NAFTA negotiator Steve Verheul), to the rising strategic importance of the Arctic (see our episode with Northwest Territories Premier R.J. Simpson), to how to solve Canada’s family doctor crisis (see our episode with Dr. Jane Philpott).

The most recent episodes of WONK have delved into what is perhaps the most pressing question on the minds of Canadians today: What does Donald Trump’s victory mean for Canada? On the morning after the U.S. election, we gathered an all-star roundtable of wonks for a U.S. Election Special to talk about what happens next. We’ve also had in-depth conversations with economist and Columbia Business School professor Brett House on the rise of Trumponomics and with Peter Loewen, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University, on the forces dividing America.

More and more listeners — record numbers for WONK — have also been rediscovering episodes from our first season, which still offer timely insights from some of Canada’s best policy minds, including former Chief Supreme Court Justice Beverley McLachlin, Canada’s Ambassador to the UN Bob Rae, Chief Crystal Smith of the Haisla Nation Council and AI superstar Shingai Manjengwa.

The Canadian Podcast Awards will be handed out in early December.
