Alison Loat

Alison Loat is an executive, management consultant and entrepreneur who currently works as senior managing director of sustainable investing and innovation at OPTrust, which invests and manages one of Canada’s largest pension funds and administers the OPSEU Pension Plan.
Alison’s expertise is in building, growing and leading high-impact, purpose-driven businesses in organizations in a range of sectors, including financial services, media, education and healthcare.
Alison has held several senior leadership positions at private companies, non-profit organizations and academic institutions, including the University of Toronto, where she taught graduate courses at the Faculty of Medicine, the School of Public Policy and the Rotman School of Management.
Alison is also the co-founder and former executive director of Samara Canada, a non-partisan charity that works to build better politics and improve democratic participation.
Alison is a member of the Banff Forum’s advisory council and sits as a director on the board of Australian technology company Ai-Media. She is also a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, where she is co-leading a disability rights project. In 2014, she published the bestselling book Tragedy in the Commons: Former Members of Parliament Speak Out About Canada’s Failing Democracy.
Alison has a bachelor’s degree in political studies from Queen’s University and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard Kennedy School. She also holds the ICD.D designation issued by the Institute of Corporate Directors.
