The Changing Nature of Work for National Associations

Invite-only roundtable discussion

February 21, 2019, 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. + Google + Apple + Outlook + Yahoo

Ottawa, ON

Leaders from diverse national associations gathered at this roundtable event to discuss issues the sector faces around the changing nature of work.

The event included remarks from:

  • Chantal Maheu, Deputy Minister of Labour and Associate Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Development;
  • Francis Fong, Chief Economist of CPA Canada;
  • Shannon Joseph, Vice President of Government Relations at the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers; and
  • Neil Parmenter, President of the Canadian Bankers Association

Background

PPF is working with organizations across Canada to investigate how policy needs to respond to the challenges of the changing nature of work. Thanks to the support of TD Bank and the Government of Canada, we will hold a major event annually, conduct consultations across the country on different future of work topics, and lead in-depth policy research on specific questions. Between February and May 2019 we will release research papers on public anxiety about automation, the lifelong learning ecosystem, opportunities to improve Employment Insurance, new approaches to negotiating power between workers and employers, and the actual definition of ‘work’ and ‘worker’.

Brave New Work is a major multi-year initiative by the Public Policy Forum, with the support of the following sponsors and partners:
