October 16, 2013: Reducing Transportation GHG Emissions in Canada–report from the Ottawa roundtable
Canada’s Public Policy Forum is convening a series of expert dialogues on challenges and opportunities for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from road transportation in Canada. The transport sector represents one of the largest sources of GHGs in Canada, with road-based passenger and freight the responsible for the bulk of these emissions. An effective strategy to address GHGs in Canada must include ways to significantly reduce this sector’s emissions. These efforts will require a range of strategies and actions, and collaboration among the public and private sectors and civil society.
On September 17, 2013, the Forum convened a group of experts from different sectors in Ottawa to discuss this issue. The themes were transportation infrastructure and land use planning. This report provides a summary of the discussion.
