Over the past year, Canada’s Public Policy Forum has been working with various Canadian elections management organzations to identify strategies for improving youth voter turnout. At a time of complex generational and economic challenges, youth civic engagement is an issue of paramount importance to our democracy and to continued good governance in Canada.

In Spring 2013, with the support of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, the Forum joined with the Forum for Young Canadians to convene 120 emerging and established leaders at Export Development Canada’s headquarters in Ottawa, to explore how we can increase the participation of young voters.

Coinciding with Canada’s Democracy Week 2013, the Forum is pleased to release this summary report. It provides a youth perspective on the role that governments, parents, teachers, peers and technology can play in inspiring young Canadians to participate in our civic institutions.
