Testimonial Dinner Award

This award pays tribute to distinguished Canadians who have made an outstanding contribution to the quality of public policy and governance in our country. Reflecting Public Policy Forum’s vision of good policy for a better Canada, where everyone has the opportunity to flourish individually and together, we welcome nominees from a wide range of professions who have strengthened public policy and fostered understanding and cooperation between the public and private sectors. Past recipients.

Criteria
Canadian leaders who have:
    • directly supported public policy efforts in areas aligned with the following cross-cutting PPF priorities, including:
    • Economic growth: unlocking investment in energy, mining and critical minerals, and trade-enabling infrastructure; building talent; Atlantic economic development; Canada-US relations; Canada and global relations;
    • Societal well-being: health and life sciences; brain capital and artificial intelligence; social cohesion; and
    • Sovereignty and security: the arctic; democracy and good governance;
    • been instrumental in leading key economic sectors that are unlocking growth for Canada;
    • worked to bring awareness to Canada’s economic growth, productivity and investment challenges and offered thought leadership as well as action to reorient the country;
    • advanced efforts to build Canada’s talent base and strengthen health and life sciences, including through policy, innovation, skills development, institutional leadership or cross-sector collaboration;
    • contributed to building bridges between the public sector and one or more of the other sectors of Canadian society: business, labour, not-for-profit, academic, media, the arts;
    • contributed significantly to improving the public policy process and/or public sector management; and
    • demonstrated exceptional leadership and initiative in one or more areas of Canadian life, including the economy, health, life sciences, sovereignty and security, the arts, culture, education, community leadership or public service., during a career spent mostly in Canada.

Emerging Leader Award – presented by TD Bank Group

Honouring young Canadians who personify leadership in public policy and civic discourse. Recipients are in the early stages of their career and demonstrate exceptional initiative to the principles of public service. Participation in social enterprises/initiatives which contribute to public engagement and good governance are also welcome. Past recipients.
Criteria
  • Canadian citizen
  • under 30
  • have demonstrated an extraordinary degree of leadership and initiative in their community
  • have advanced public policy, public sector management or citizen participation in democracy.

The Hyman Soloman Award for Excellence in Public Policy Journalism

This award celebrates the journalistic standards and intellectual integrity of the late Hyman Solomon. As the Ottawa Bureau Chief of the Financial Post, he covered the complex interplay of the public and private sectors, and the intricacies of national decision-making. Past recipients.

Criteria

Canadian journalist, working in either official language who:
  • provides insights into the policy-making process in Canada
  • explains how changes in public policy affect Canadians well-being and collective economic progress.

Frank McKenna Award for Leadership in Public Policy

This award is named in honour of Frank McKenna, who is widely regarded as the one of the region’s most influential public-policy leaders. Since 2013, PPF has presented over three dozen awards to distinguished Atlantic Canadians who have built bridges between sectors, contributed to public policy and shown exceptional leadership. Past recipients span a wide range of industries and backgrounds, reflecting the diverse fabric of Atlantic Canada. The awards are presented at a special ceremony as part of the Frank McKenna Awards event. Past recipients.

  • have contributed significantly to public policy on a regional basis with national impact.

Peter Lougheed Award for Leadership in Public Policy

This award is presented at our Western Dinner event and recognizes policy leadership from a Western Canadian perspective. Past recipients

Prix Marcel Côté Award 

Marcel Côté was a boundless visionary, a bridge-builder and a tireless advocate for good public policy. In his honour, PPF created the annual Marcel Côté Award for Leadership in Public Policy. Past recipients.

  • demonstrate extraordinary leadership qualities and help improve public policy and public discourse at the municipal, provincial, national and/or international levels.
