This new program from the PPF Academy is for executives and change leaders across sectors who want to build a more disability inclusive workplace and prevent an ableist return to work.
About the Program

The Access Ability Executive Program (AAEP) is an experiential peer-learning program which equips participants with knowledge, skills and strategies to create concrete action plans that further disability inclusion in their workplaces.

The AAEP, which is offered jointly by the PPF Academy and the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work, is facilitated by a team of experienced moderators and involves presentations by experts, small group discussions, peer action groups and interactive learning and co-design sessions.

Over three program modules and 4 to 5 hours of asynchronous learning and group work, you and your peers will:

  • Gain new perspectives. Expand your understanding of how disability can be experienced, how to address barriers to inclusion and how to integrate disability equity into intersectional Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts.
  • Design concrete actions. Learn tools, strategies and processes from experts with lived experience and how they can be applied in your workplace to improve hiring, retention, career advancement and wellbeing of employees with disabilities.
  • Strengthen skills. Build the leaderships skills you’ll need to affect change and develop concrete practices and tools that stick.
  • Build a community. Engage with an exciting and diverse group of peers also working on these dynamic questions and real-world leadership challenges.

Program Background

The Public Policy Forum has been leading the conversation on the future of work and tracking how the COVID-19 pandemic has sped up and intensified changes to work and workplaces. In some ways, the pandemic has made work more accessible for people with disabilities, but in other ways it has made things worse.

In pursuit of a post-pandemic economy that is equitable for all and positioned for growth–and building on the innovative PPF Access Ability research project that involved leading experts and PPF’s network of major Canadian employers plus provincial and federal policymakers, and resulted in the Access Ability Strategy Report–the Access Ability Executive Program combines our main research findings with an experiential peer learning and change management approach to advance disability inclusion.
